Moving Day!

This past Saturday we moved into our new house. It’s a good thing we love our house, because we are never moving again! What a day we had! It all started early in the morning with my nephew Ethan’s baptism. We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it, but I got up at 6 am to get myself ready and to feed Logan, and we actually got there a few minutes early. And Logan was good the entire time. So that turned out good. Congrats, Ethan! Then the bad started. It started snowing while we were at the baptism, and snowed most of the rest of the day. Driving home from West Jordan on 215 was one of the scariest things ever. Logan got fussy because he was getting hungry, so I was sitting in the back seat trying to keep him calm until we could get home. But the road was so slick, I thought for sure we were going to slide off. We kept seeing other cars that had slid, and there was one truck that was totally flipped over and smashed. I was freaking out. But we made it. On our way home, we stopped in Bountiful to pick up the Uhaul truck we had rented for the day. We had told people to come to our house at noon to start helping, but we didn’t get there until noon ourselves. Fortunately we still beat most people there. So we had lots of great people that came and helped us move: Lynn, Mike and Kim, and Jeph and Venita from Danny’s family, and my mom and dad and 3 sisters from my family, plus Danny’s friends Justin and Colby. We had most everything packed up the day before, so everyone just started loading up the truck. Well, we didn’t plan very well, and the truck didn’t get packed very well, so we ran out of space in the truck. So we decided to take the first load over to the house and come back for the rest. At the new house, we got everything unloaded and put in its basic place, and then everyone jumped back in their cars to get the second load. Unfortunately, the roads in our new neighborhood were really slippery from the snow, and on the way out of the neighborhood, a car slid into the Uhaul that Danny was driving. Ug! So they had to stick around and wait for the police to do the reports and everything. The Uhaul only had some scratches and a little bend on the front bumper. Fortunately at the last minute, Danny opted to pay the $14 extra for insurance, which pretty much saved us from having to replace said bumper. Well that all took forever and made a big dent in the day. Finally the Uhaul got back to the old house and got loaded up. We also had some stuff in storage, so the Uhaul had to stop there to get all of that. Danny forgot the key to the storage unit, so I had to take it to him. By the time the second load got back to the new house, it was like 5 pm, and everyone was beat. We got the second load unloaded and sent everyone home. It was hard at the new house because everyone had muddy wet shoes because of the weather. Now we’re not going to have one of those houses where you have to take off your shoes, but we also didn’t want mud to be tracked through the house on our very first day. So we had some people bringing stuff in from the garage that were “shoe people” and some people inside the house taking things were they go that were “sock people”. Everyone worked together very well and we finally got everything in. So then my dad took Danny back to drop off the truck and pick up his car at the old house. After one more walk through of the old house, Danny got in his car to find that I had left the lights on that morning, and the battery was dead. Could this day get any worse? So he called my dad, who turned around and picked him up. By the time we got home, we were both so beat. We set up our bed and I went straight to bed. Unfortunately, Logan had been sleeping most of the day, which was good, except then he was awake and fussy when we wanted to sleep. Danny was a good sport and stayed up with him so I could get some sleep. So that’s our moving day. We’re so excited to be in our new house, and we have a lot of our stuff unpacked. It’s starting to feel like home now. We want to tell everyone that helped how grateful we are for your help. We honestly could not have done it without each and every one of you. I hope we can repay the favor in the future. In the craziness of the day, I wasn’t able to take any pictures, but here are a couple courtesy of Mike Bailey.

We feel really bad that we weren't able to be a part of such an eventful moving day. Glad to hear that you are all safe though. We hope you are enjoying your new house.

It really put a "dent" in your day??!! HA HA HA HA did you do that on purpose? Man I need to go to bed.

Anyway, I'm so glad the moving day is over, it sounded pretty hectic! Congrats on your new house, wahoo!
